Sleep time is a prime time for your body to repair and grow. Yet most people don’t get enough sleep every night, either they stay up late watching Netflix and YouTube (guilty of that myself.) or they have something else that keeps them up all night like Insomnia or Sleep apnea which you should really go see a doctor about if you haven’t already.

I personally try to get 8 hours of sleep. Give or take a hour, any more than that and I become irritable and even more sleepy. 8 hours is roughly the ideal amount of sleep someone should be getting each night, if you find yourself groggy and more tired because you overslept 8 hours and got like 10 or 12 hours you need to set an alarm and force yourself to get up each day. Once it becomes a habit, your body will adapt and you will function better.

The reason it’s important to get a good, quality sleep is because it will help you fight off bad moods such as depression, irritability and it can take advantage of the body’s natural human growth hormone production at night time which is important when you’ve got a heavy workout/ training  schedule or a physically stressful day job.

Sleeping is also critical for someone going through School, High School or College we tend to get caught up cramming for test or working on projects or just staying up with friends but it will do your body a world of wonders to actually get a few good nights of sleep. Refresh your mind so you can better absorb the material.

Some extra fitness related reasons to get sleep:

  1.  Not enough sleep can increase cortisol levels in the body. Cortisol while helpful in several ways to the body can become bad when the levels are increased and can actually result in weight gain around the mid section and the rest of the body. Cortisol levels can also be raised through stressing out, so keep that in mind as well.

  2. Being on a consistent sleep schedule makes it easier to plan and execute your daily routine. If you’re always running late or always feeling like you never have enough time in your day, chances are you’re  not sleeping enough and taking a lot of naps throughout the day to make up for it. When you’re use to waking up at the same time each day your body will naturally start waking up around this time and you just might be able to get rid of your alarm clock.

Feel you need some help getting to sleep? I highly recommend you try this GABA supplement. This is hands down one of the best sleep things I have used when I wanted to get really restful sleep. I’m talking about deep REM sleep, waking up completely refreshed and energized.
